MICROSOFT SPRINGS LAST-MINUTE DEMAND ON BUYERS OF WINDOWS 7

Microsoft has been key to running its respected support for Windows 7 after retirement this week, telling IT admins there’s a new prerequisite that needs to be installed before they can pay for patches they’ve already paid for. The last-minute requirement was named “Extended Security Update License Preparation Package” and was identified as KB4538483 in Microsoft’s numeric format. The license preparation package can be downloaded manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog. It should also appear on Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), the patch management platform used by many commercial clients. However, the Windows Update service will not be provided automatically, which many small businesses rely on to provide necessary patches.
