The store has more than 2.5 million content across genres and languages, in the form of music clips, movies, music videos, and dialogues; mobile content such as ringtones and wallpapers.

To migrate your existing Oracle database engine to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.

SOLUTION

Current workload:

  • Oracle database as the production database.
  • Applications connected to the Oracle database

We implemented a fully cloud-based solution with Amazon Web Services technology to migrate the Oracle database engine to Amazon Aurora (compatible with PostgreSQL). The following work was carried out:

  • Installing Oracle (in case of EC2) and restoring the most recent Recovery Manager (RMAN) backup of the Oracle database to production on it.
  • Migrate the Oracle database schema created above to Aurora PostgreSQL using AWS SCT (Schema Conversion Tool) installed on a Windows EC2 instance.
  • Migrate existing data from Oracle production database to Aurora PostgreSQL using AWS Data Migration Service (DMS).
  • Development of the UAT environment.
  • Testing the target database converted to a UAT environment.

The solution used the following services:

  • AWS Schema Conversion Tool (AWS SCT) – Used to convert schemas from one database engine to another. It was used to convert the Oracle database schema to Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • AWS Database Migration Service: The AWS Database Migration Service helps you to migrate databases to AWS quickly and securely. It was used to migrate data from Oracle to Aurora PostgreSQL after a successful schema conversion.
  • Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL: This is a fully managed PostgreSQL-compatible relational database engine that combines the speed and reliability of high-performance commercial databases with the simplicity and affordability of open source databases. This is the target database engine to which the existing Oracle database was migrated.
  • Amazon EC2 instance (Linux) – used as a test server to retrieve the latest snapshot of the original Oracle database.
  • Amazon EC2 Instance (Windows) – Used to install the AWS Schema Conversion Tool.
