Facebook-Parent Meta Creates AI Research SuperCluster Supercomputer, Touted to Be World’s Fastest

Facebook said it believes the computer will be the fastest in the world when it is fully functional by the middle of the year.

Parent company Facebook Meta announced Monday that it has built what it considers one of the smartest speed computers to operate today.

The social media giant reported that it hopes the device will help lay the foundation for its metaverse construction – a real building designed to replace the Internet as we know it today.

Facebook said it believes the computer will be the fastest in the world when it is fully functional by the middle of the year.

Supercomputers are very fast and powerful devices built to perform complex calculations that cannot be done on a normal home computer. The location and cost of building the computer were not disclosed by Meta.

A computer that works but is still working is called an AI Research SuperCluster. According to Meta, this will help its AI analysts create “new and better” types of smart designs that can learn from “billions” of models and work simultaneously on hundreds of different languages and study texts, pictures and videos together.

The power details of Meta computing are different from conventional and very efficient computing technologies because they rely on the performance of graphics processing chips to help speed up in-depth learning algorithms. Take pictures, analyze texts and translate between languages, says Tuomas Sandholm, a computer science professor and co-director of Carnegie Mellon University’s artificial intelligence center.
